I Texas TN

Since moving to Franklin, TN from Dallas, TX my wife and I have noticed that we’re not the only ones in love with our new surroundings—yet loyal and proud of our previous home state, Texas … as my wife says “Always a Texan.”

We continue to get people stopping us on the road and in parking lots to ask us where we got our window sticker … I Texas TN … and now you can get one for yourself.

I am from Kemp Texas, East Texas area, and I miss GOOD state fairs. When I moved to TN and attended the “state” fair, I thought I was at a county fair. Of course I also learned that a couple of the county fairs are better than the state fair LOL. I love love love TN, happy to transplant here.
    What I love about TN
    Landscape
    TREES
    Green grass
Water! we were always on water ration during the summer in TX
No one thinking they’re so awesome for being able to fly their state flag at the same mast as US flag…FYI, everyone does that anyway…
JOBS, everywhere, maybe not what you want, but I see help wanted signs every day.
Many, many universities to choose from.
Umm, great churches, green ways, state parks, playgrounds and in general just plain beautiful

  2. Kyle Dreier says:

You certainly touch on some of the same things I think of. This time of year makes me think of the Texas State Fair and Big Tex. Yesterday marked the 10 year anniversary of our move here from Big-D to a little patch of heaven on 5 acres out near Triune. One of the biggest surprises was the walking our dog in the pitch dark and hearing a snorting noise … oh my … it was deer. :)

  3. Linda Scherrer says:

Thank you for a sticker that says it all so succinctly – AND includes the silhouette of the great state! Blessings to your family and little Ruby.

What I miss about Texas: Tex-Mex, BBQ, The River Walk, boots’n'hats, Bluebonnots & Spanish oak, the Rio Frio, Padre Island & Aransas Bay, cowboys, the Hill Country, it’s strength and history.
What I love about Tennessee: It’s gentleness, the green hills, four distinct seasons, historic homes, beautiful farms, old wooden barns.

  4. Kyle Dreier says:

You comment makes me miss Chuy’s and roads that have only one name for miles and miles and miles. I certainly also enjoy our seasons here and don’t miss the heat in Big-D.

  5. Ben says:

    Hello from Texas.

I was referencing the thread on Facebook…i saw on a friends status….fyi.

  7. Karen Marcus says:

What a great idea! We moved here from the DFW area 9 years ago. While I love TN, especially Middle TN, I miss certain things about Texas such as Bluebonnets, real Mexican food (not this pretend stuff here,) Texas-style BBQ, the State Fair, Dallas Summer Musicals (the Music Hall itself is a plus,) Campisi’s, the Ballpark in Arlington, better shopping, and Mesquite trees. My daughter and I are native Texans (my Yankee husband claims to be “from” Texas but we know better.)
What I love about TN: the weather & definite seasons, deer and wild turkey wandering around, less traffic, beautiful rolling hills, historic homes, the Natchez Trace Pkwy, great people, and Smoky Mountains.
Thanks for the website, Kyle! I’ll be sending off for my sticker!

  8. Mary Kay Hunt says:

I am from Houston, Texas and have lived here for 23 years. Same wonderful house across the street from a pasture with cattle. The Lord has confirmed that this is my new home by bringing a Longhorn to the pasture several years ago.
    What I miss about Texas-
Used to be bluebell but we go that here on June 16th (oops forgot what year)-YEA!
    BLUEBONNETS!
Wouldn’t mind a Fletcher’s corn dog, Ninfa’s green sauce or a James Coney Island.
To think I used to sit in a blind for hours waiting for the perfect three year old 10 point buck and they run across my front yard all the time!
I am sending in for some bumper stickers for my younger and “homesick” friends!

  9. Being a native Texan I appreciate all of your skills and efforts to organize a website for those of us now living in Tennessee. I still have family and many friends in the Lone Star state and visit there every chance I get. After reading many of the comments from other Texans, it’s amazing what we all hold dear regarding food, events and significant places. I grew up in Richardson and watched Dallas grow into the mega complex it is today. The 1000 acre farm that I lived on, rode horses and combines as a kid is now a hugh sub-division. My uncle took me to my first Dallas Cowboy game and I have been a fan ever since. I graduated from North Texas when it was NTSU. Here’s a brief stroll down memory lane -The Texas State Fair with the original wooden roller coster, the midway and sideshows, the Cotton Bowl, Texas-OU weekend, swimming at Vickey Park, dining at Southern Kitchen(s), Youngblood’s Fried chicken or The Rib on Mockingbird Lane, The first Steak & Ale restaurant, Hot link sausages, chicken fried steak, Nacona boots, Mrs. Baird’s bakery, touring the Dr. Pepper plant, Bluebell icecream, all of the original movie theatres in downtown Dallas (The Majestic, The Palace), The Gemini (double screen drive-in on I-75), The opening of 6 Flags with the campus revue, watching & listening to ZZ Top, Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, & Janis Joplin (before they were famous) Friday night football (an event in every Texas town), after game street parties, Mean Joe Green, The Dallas Texans, Dallas Radio stations including late night with Wolfman Jack from Del Rio Texas. Yes sir, a great place to live and grow up and definately a unique culture all its own.
Kyle, thanks for makin’ this happen!

  10. Kyle,

Thanks for the bumper sticker. I’m just gunnin’ for points with my in-laws. They live in Texas but are moving to Tennessee soon and will keep a residence in both states, so this sticker is perfect for them. Me, I’m a ‘tweener (from Arkansas). Should I say that on this blog?

Anyway, we are more at home in Tennessee than anywhere else. As for Texas, my favorite memories are Six Flags as a child, the first Texas Music Festival at the Cotton Bowl as a teen, and The Velvet Elvis and adjoining soul food restaurant in Dallas (is that still there?).

Blessings to you regarding the adoption.

  11. Kyle Dreier says:

Yes, all those things are memories of Texas for me as well. Cotton Bowl music … I saw Journey, Sammy Hagger and Joan Jett at the Texas Jam. Fun.

  12. MrsB : ) says:

    Dear Friends,
My husband and I moved here in January, and just yesterday we saw this bumber sticker on a car near 440 in N’ville. I “googled” it, and this site came up! Here it is, May 2010. Do you have any stickers left?? We would be happy to send a donation to help with your beloved Ruby, as you must have her in your arms by now!

I am a native Texan, spent 13 1/2 years in exile in Ohio (sorry, Ohio, but the snow in the NE Ohio snowbelt was brutal on this Texas girl), and just moved to TN. What do I miss about Texas, though I go there several times a year? I miss Amy’s Ice Cream (I was thrilled to find Blue Bell here almost as soon as we arrived), viewing the Capitol from Mopac every day, the Alamo, and bluebonnets. But most of all, I miss my parents, brother, 96 year-old grandpa, and 70 year-old uncle who is developmentally challenged. I brought home a package of bluebonnet seeds from near Fredricksburg last week that I am going to plant this fall. Has anyone tried this? Did they come up? I wish I could bring my native Texan extended family back with me, too. Sigh…

I hope you have a sticker. If you do, money and gratitude will soon be on the way!

    Bless your hearts,
    MrsB : )

  13. MrsB : ) says:

Dang! I forgot to say County Line BBQ! Sorry. (Bill Miller’s will do in a pinch when nearing the end of the month’s food money!)

  14. Jamie Lynn says:

I saw one of these stickers at Chuy’s in Cool Springs, and went nuts! I’ve been looking everywhere to find one. Finally found your blog! So creative, so true! I grew up in Midland, and miss our local tex mex chain Rosa’s so much. I even have my friends mail me jars of their salsa. Would love to have a sticker for myself!

  15. Lydia says:

I saw this on a car at the Galleria mall yesterday in Cool Springs and LOVED it. My hubby & I moved to TN from New Braunfels TX 2 years ago. Part of my family is here hence the move, but there are so many things we miss about TX. Bluebonnets!! The great beautiful sky. Believe it or not, the weather. It’s too cold here LOL! (This at the end of a long hot streak this summer!) HEB. Central Market!!! No one understands here that Whole Foods, while being wonderful, is nothing compared to Central Market. Rudy’s BBQ. The rivers in New Braunfels, and Schlitterbahn. The live oaks and hill country. Tex-Mex – never thought we’d miss it, being originally from California where the Mexican is SO much better, but Tennessee mexican food is pretty bad. :)
I do enjoy Tennessee too. It’s beautifully green, the variety of trees and flowers in spring, the distinct fall & spring weather is nice too.
Anyway, love the bumper sticker, and thanks for this little forum to reminisce about TX!

  16. admin says:

Hi Lydia, Ah … those are things I miss as well. “The Butt” or “Super HEEB” as we used to call HEB is something to long for. I’m ready to grab an tube and go down Schlitterbahn! – Kyle

  17. Suzanne says:

GIG ‘EM–My family is native Texans and so proud to be from the land’s greatest state.
However, if you can’t live in Texas, then the next best place is Tennessee! We are in
Germantown (Memphis) and have been for 23 years. Both of our children were born
in Texas tho. We have family in West, Austin, Houston, Dallas, etc. and go “home”
often–if nothing else but for authentic TEX MEX. A good friend showed me your
bumper sticker and said “you have to have one”. They are AWESOME and our
sentiments exactly. Thanks for a fellow Texan! Remember the Alamo!!!!!!

  18. Eric says:

I’m a soldier from the Fort Worth area stationed here. I can’t live in TX just now, but Tennessee has come to feel like home.
I miss BEEF barbecue, dance halls (the family kind, that don’t serve liquor and there’s little kids two stepping), and the sky. Good Lord, the sky is so much bigger in TX.
I like Tennessee for the people, pork barbecue, the music, and the hills. Oh, and te hunting is pretty great too.

  19. Kelly says:

I recently moved to Memphis from the great city of Austin. I love love Austin, but I am getting and growing very fond of Memphis as well. I recently joined the Memphis Roller Derby team which I love very much, and of course had to carry over my Texas roots in my derby name “Roller Texas Ranger”… everyone even calls me Texas for short which I love. One of my friends here, also a Texan and now a current Memphian gave me your bumper sticker as a gift when I bought my new car recently and I love it!!

Thanks for all you do, and of course your support for Texas!

    Kelly

  20. Sydney says:

I moved to Franklin Tennessee from Plano, Texas when I was three years old. Although I only lived in Texas for a short amount of time, the rest of my family was there much longer. We all love it very much, and I’m proud to say that I’m a Texan. When I was five years old I met my best friend Megan. We have been best friends for almost 13 years now, even though she moved when we were seven. Ironically she moved to the same location in Texas that I had moved from. We both Texas Tennessee!!!! :)

  21. David Escandell says:

My family and I moved here, to Franklin, Nov of last year (2010) from Bedford, TX. While we love it here, there is a part of me that misses Texas – where we called home for the last 25 years.

I’d love to get some of those bumper stickers. Where can I find them?

  22. Hope says:

Love this idea…I actually saw one of these with an Ohio outline rather than a Texas… I’m a former Ohioan living in Tennessee now… Just wondering if you happened to know who made those, or if you can make one? Thanks!

  23. Katie says:

I just saw your bumper sticker going down Cool Springs Blvd. After a total of 19 years here, I am still a Texan. It took me about 10 to feel like I am finally home here. My kids, having been born all 3 at Vandy Hosp don’t know anything different. I grew up in Abilene, with about 3 yrs Ft. Worth and frequent visits to Austin to see grandparents. Spent 3 years at Tx A&M while my husband was in grad school and then a year and a half in Galveston for his internship. I have traveled ALL OVER the state.
What I miss about Texas: Tex-Mex, Bluebonnets, the Hill Country, the vastness of it. That slogan “a whole other country” is so true. Texas is a land unto itself. People from other states don’t understand that being from Texas is almost like a nationality to us.I didn’t realize that until I moved away. I have lived overseas and now in Tenn, and, believe me, Texas IS a whole other country. Also, I think people establish friendships more quickly in Texas. People here are very nice, but my experience, having moved back and forth from Texas, is that it is much easier to develop a network of friends quickly in Texas.
What I love about Tennessee: It RAINS HERE. the green hills, four distinct seasons (I really love fall and spring here), historic homes, beautiful horses, being able to get to other states so easily.

  24. Casey Loftis says:

I was on my way to Nashville yesterday and saw an “I Texas TN” bumper sticker and thought it was genius. So naturally I got home Google searched it and here I am looking for one. I’m originally from Irving, lived in Corsicana, Tx for a while made it back to Dallas and now I live in Rickman, TN. I would have to say the things I miss most about Texas is the rich culture and pride in the place you live. Apart from that would be the food! We are going on a two week vacation to visit friends & family, we are going to make a Rangers game, take the kids to Six Flags and to Sliterbaughn. As my wife is mapping out the trip, I’m mapping outthe restaurants we are going to hit up. Although I haven’t found a great barbecue place and TexMex doesn’t exist in Tennessee, this is a great place to live if you love the outdoors. We live close to many clear water streams and rivers in which we enjoy hiking and fishing. Evidently Texas comes up a lot in conversations with me. The other day I was hanging out at a local coffee shop when a guy looked at me and said, “If it wasn’t for a lot of us Tennessee boys, Texas wouldn’t be what it is today.” I know that there is a lot of truth to that, so all I could say was, “They left Tennessee for a great reason.”

  25. shelley says:

driving around spring hill, tn today, and got behind a van with this sticker. googled it & found you! that’s an awesome idea that shows home-state pride but love for your current home. Love it! I want to find one that says “I [Canada Flag] TN”!! Because I do!!

  26. Paige says:

I saw this bumper sticker @ Pizza Perfect last night, and I said “Hey, I TEXAS TN TOO!” Moved to Nashville 4 years ago from Wichita Falls.

  27. Paige says:

Forgot to mention, I miss chicken fried steaks, but not the wild fires. I love Tennessee’s mild weather, when it’s not storming…the rain is so nice though.

  28. Southern jezeBelle says:

I found your site thru a picture of the sticker on fb. I was intrigued so I clicked on it and saw the website name. I’m the opposite here. I’m a native TN girl who just moved to Houston. Texas is a great state and we love living here though miss the mountains of East TN. I may need to make an “I (tn) TX” sticker for myself. :)

  29. Brittany says:

I’m actually the opposite of most of these people. I moved from Nashville to Fort Worth for my husband’s job last year, and miss Nashville! Texas is fabulous and I don’t think I’d move back to TN, but I do miss it! I absolutely love TX sports… Go Rangers! and the rodeo! So fun!

I’d LOVE a bumper sticker for my husband and myself!

Please let me know how I can get one :)

    Thanks!

  30. David Escandell says:

    @Paige
Wichita Falls? really? I went to Old High and MSU. Do you miss it?

  31. Ryan says:

I’m from Houston, TX and have been living in Nashville, TN now for 7 years! I love TX and I love TN! I HAVE to get a few of these! One for each of my vehicles (2) and another for my guitar case! This is awesome!

  32. Marsha says:

I Texas Tennessee…brilliant!! I grew up in the middle of a cotton field in the Midland-Big Spring area, and have lived here 22 years now. I still think it rains all the time, and chuckle at the ‘droughts’ here. I miss black diamond watermelon the most, but also the yellow and orange meat watermelon of all varieties which my dad would plant every year. Texas has that sandy soil so perfect for huge, great tasting watermelon. I’m headed to West Texas tomorrow – yep, in July on purpose – and I hope to partake and bring a couple home with me.

  33. Jason Kollar says:

I lived in San Antonio for 12 years, and just recently (last August) moved to Nashville to attend Belmont. Right now, I’m living with a friend in Franklin, and actually saw someone on this street with one of the stickers!
My parents moved to Temple once I left, and I was just able to go visit their new place for a few weeks, as well as go down to San Antonio.

    What I miss about Texas:
    Weather
    The State itself
    Barbecue
    So Much More.

What I like about Tennessee (Nashville, Franklin):
    Going to school here
    The People
The artistic air over the whole city
    The Weather
    The distance from other places
    The amount of trees/water
    The scenery, like leipers fork
    So Much More.

I think I just may shoot you an email and have some sent to the house I’m staying at in Franklin. I actually have a few friends both in Franklin and in Nashville that I know would love to have one.

    Thanks!
    Jason

  34. Eric says:

Hello, I am from Corpus Christi, Texas, but I have also lived in Dallas. I really do miss Texas, my family being at the top of my list. I also miss texas football, Go Big D! Texas Fajitas! I miss the down town dallas skyline. I miss the saying “Don’t Mess with Texas.” I also miss the beautiful texas flag. I now live in Tennessee and I absolutely Texas TN! I live in the Nashville area and love that you can find live music almost anywhere you go. I love how green Tennessee is, and the Appalachian mountains. I now attend college at MTSU and I’m enjoying it as well. Most of all I love the people here.

Please send me a few of these stickers. When I saw it on the back of someones car, it made my day.. I was thinking “Hey, I Texas TN!” I even thought about chasing that car down to ask where he got it. I thought about it all day long and had to google it. I have a few family members who would love to have this and who share our state pride. Genius!

  35. Veronica says:

Well, I’m from a small town in southeast Carrizo Springs, TX. I moved to TN in 2002 to attend college at MTSU. I got my degree in recording industry and currently work at CMA.
    DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE!
I left my family in TX to pursue a career in the music industry and it paid off! The only thing is I MISS TEXAS!!! I still have Texas plates on my car and I have a Texas flag that will hang in my “office”(cubical)
A friend showed me the sticker and I fell in love with it. So much so, I’m thinking about getting it as a tattoo.
Yep, that’s how much I love & miss Texas. I do love my new home in TN. I just with TX & TN where closer to each other.

  36. Andrew Southern says:

are these bumper stickers still available? i saw it on a car outside my work today and had to check into it.

    thanks!

  37. Brooke ODell says:

I am from all over Texas, Huntsville, South Houston and Fort Worth but now live in Nashville with my Yankee husband. I started a food blog, http://www.yellowrosecafe.blogspot.com to keep my roots close to my heart and share my lifestyle fusion of Texas spirit and Southern soul. I love Texas…but I love my new beautiful home of Tennessee!

  38. Russ Rankin says:

LOVE IT! Saw the bumper sticker on the vehicle in front of me during my drive to work. Was happy that it was someone in my building, so I got to look at it closely and get the website. Order is in!

I was born in Sherman but my family moved away before I was 1. I rediscovered Texas during my years at Baylor and then worked in Dallas for a number of years. I’ll always be Texan and my two boys are proud to say they were born in Texas. That said, we have really fallen in love with Middle Tennessee — the seasons and the fact that greater-Nashville is not a concrete jungle like the Metroplex.

What do I miss? It was a sad day when I got my Tennessee plates and had to take the plate off that had “TEXAS TRUCK” on it. It was like I had neutered my truck. I also miss Texas BBQ, the Cowboys (couldn’t care less about the Titans or the “don’t shoot me orange” UT), weekends in San Antonio, Salado, and eating Whataburger. Texas shared the Blue Bell with Tenn., which played into me knowing it would be OK to move here; in return Tennessee has shared Sundrop soda with Texas. Now it’s Texas’ turn to give us Whatatburger. Here’s hoping…

  39. admin says:

    Russ,
I, too, am a Baylor ex. We love being in Franklin and don’t miss the “concrete jungle” either.
Regarding Whataburger … YES! Start the campaign.
    -Kyle

  40. admin says:

Yes, just put your order in and I’ll get them to you. It takes me a day or two to get around to it. Thanks for being patient. – Kyle

  41. Gail Brown says:

We are almost neighbors and I call myself a future Texan…I am totally enamored with the people, the bigness, and music and yeah, I can more than hold my own two-stepping… Got to the Hill Country and Bandera back in Nov…would go tomorrow if i could…
Love my Tennessee, but ready to explore me some Texas…
That’s the coolest bumper sticker I’ve seen in a while…
    Thanks
    Gail

  42. Julie says:

Just did a double take when I walked the dog and saw the bumper sticker on a neighbor’s visitng car and it perfectly expresses my sentiment. If I can’t be in “god’s country”, then Nashville is the next best thing. I’m from Houston and miss the Buffalo Bar and Grill, good Tex-Mex at Pappasitos, shrimp fresh off the boat in Galveston. It took me quite a while to get used to these rolling hills after the flat lands of Houston. I too will be proudly sporting the bumper sticker. Thanks Kyle!!!!

  43. Sherri Shaw says:

My Texas roots run deep, going back to Austin’s Original 300. I don’t want to be one of those obnoxious transplants who always laments that where they came from is better than where they currently are (Yankees are particularly bad about that)…because the road goes both ways. This is why I was so glad to see your bumper sticker – it acknowledges a love of Texas while still honoring Tennessee. I find the spirit of Texans and Tennesseans are similar, and I tell people that if I can’t live in Texas, Tennessee is the only other place I’d want to be. I love it here in Franklin – great people and a wonderful place to raise a family.
